Yesterday Shelby and I tagged along with Tom on his drive up to UCLA so we could explore the Festival of Books while he went to class. We had a great time wandering around.
Shelby got a caricature done by a childrens' book illustrator and got a yellow balloon. Balloons are one of her new favorite things, so she was in heaven.
We also added our books to a huge "What are you reading?" poster. For Shelby: Dr. Seuss. For me: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet (which was recommended to me, and I'd say it's definitely worth reading).
We had lunch on the grass and listened to a poetry reading by Amber Tamblyn - she's not just about The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, apparently! Random. I actually liked a couple of her poems because they made fun of the narcissistic LA crowd.
Once Tom was done with class he joined us for some yummy roasted almonds, a stroll through some booths, and a visit to the UCLA bookstore. We had a great time.
Shelby spent the rest of the day with her balloon on her wrist. It went with her to the grocery store, on a walk, around the house, and sat through two meals. It was adorable.

I'm so jealous! What a fun day!
CUTE pics! Next year we'd love to go with you to this. It sounds great!
Fun! I totally wanted to go this year (I've been saying that the last 5 years...) but ended up racing on Saturday. Boo. Maybe next year. But it was fun to live vicariously through you! And Shelby gets cuter by the day.
I love Shelby with her little yellow balloon! How fun! I love your shirt, by the way. I need you and mom to come shopping with me again and dress me! ;)
