It's been a birthday filled few weeks at our house!
How cool is this - Tom's birthday was on Super Bowl Sunday this year. Is that a great excuse for a party or what? We had all of our friends down to our place for a football slash birthday party to celebrate and we had a blast.
The boys. They actually watched the game.
Let's be honest - half of us were more interested in watching the commercials than the game, and we got so chit-chatty that we didn't even watch that part. Yet we still had a blast! Lots of good food, fun chatting, birthday cake, and cute kiddos make for a good night. I'm sad I didn't get more photos of the kids. They played so adorably well together.
I don't know why her eyes are glowing...eerie.
Apparently Shelby felt she should defend her beach ball with a ferocious roar!
Our friend Jason couldn't make it (we missed you!), but Elizabeth made it all ok. Cool wife that she is, she brought a cardboard cutout of him to join in.
Aw, the party is complete now!
This thing was complete with two facial expressions, confetti decor, and interchangeable Jason-esque sayings like "What's a Super Bowl?" and "Who wants to talk politics?". Oh, how we like our friends - a blast even when they're not here!
Our party snacks were no joke. I ate way too much and enjoyed every bite of our menu:
- Ham and Swiss sandwiches warm out of the oven- Spinach and artichoke dip (for which I forgot artichokes - duh! - thanks to Jane for saving the day)- Chips and three dips: homemade guac, homemade bean dip, and salsa- Homemade taquitos- Fresh fruit and two homemade fruit dips- Hummus and pita chips- Pretzel Slims (the dark chocolate covered ones from Trader Joe's - BLISS!)- Peanut butter cups and gummy hearts (also from Trader Joe's and also bliss)
Thank goodness we have friends with excellent taste. They brought great stuff to share and also helped us eat. That was a LOT of food!
As if that weren't enough, we had a very naughty birthday cake. This bakery is at my farmers' market every week tempting me with delicious samples of their butter rum cake. I was thrilled to have an excuse to buy the whole thing. This cake is to die for.
Tom and I just finished it off tonight under the guise of "let's not let it go to waste - it's getting a bit old". Yeah, right. Really I just couldn't let it sit there smelling so good anymore. I could smell it through the plastic wrap!
Back to business. Tom is pretty much the coolest. It's a fact. I had so much fun celebrating him and I'm thrilled that our friends could come join in.
We're number one!
I hope 29 treats Tom well. He works so hard for our family. Between work and school I'm amazed he stays sane. Yet he does it all with a smile on his face, sweet words for me and for Shelby, and with more awesomeness than I could ever muster.
Tom said I could only write this post if I mention how awesome I am (I am pretty awesome, but I won't go crazy elaborating). All I can say is...don't I look cute in his jersey? This is his California High School football jersey and I'm thrilled that he still has it. It was the perfect thing to wear to his party. It was so comfortable that it became my PJs that night, too! Tom was cute - he loved that his wife is the first (and only!) girl to sport his number. Go Seguine!
We also want to throw out a happy birthday to Julie! Tom and his sister have the same birthday - what are the odds?
Love you, Tom! Happy birthday!

So glad Tom had a great day! Did he get my bday text? And the odds are pretty good for sharing bdays (at least in our family), including cousins there are 2 (three if we count Eric's family) other shared bdays!
happy birthday, tom! Looks like you had a great party!
Happy Birthday Tom. Looks like a good celebration. And those shared birthdays are great.
Spencer and his oldest sister share a birthday. She says he is her best birthday present ever. Awwww.
Happy birthday, Tom! What a fun party! Looks like he definitely got spoiled!
Heather, you're a total babe in that Seguine jersey. Hot stuff!
