I Spy...Did You?

What's different about Shelby's appearance? Undies! Yes, she's potty trained! She's very proud to be a big girl who wears undies.

Peek a boo! Pink undies where a diaper used to be.
Congrats to Lynn - she spotted the diaperless bum in the videos.

We did her training over General Conference weekend since I knew we wouldn't need to go anywhere and Tom would be around to help with Cameron.

The report card:
Shelby - A for amazing
Me - D for despicable

The only thing keeping me from giving myself a failing grade is the fact that I didn't give up. But my attitude was awful and I was a terror to be around that whole weekend. Poor Tom. I was just super overwhelmed at the idea of doing potty training. I had no idea where to start! Plus I didn't know how it'd work taking time out to nurse Cameron every two hours. But I knew Shelby was ready.

Thank goodness Tom's mom passed along a great book and I studied up beforehand. It was nice to have a starting point and the method worked like a charm. Within twenty minutes she had gone on the potty for the first time. There were, of course, the obligatory accidents, frustration, and confusion (hence my "having two kids is hard!" blog rant), but really Shelby was amazing. She picked it up so well. I'm not surprised; she makes things so much easier on me. Now she's gone almost three weeks without an accident. She's also got the hang of going when we're out and about. She's used restrooms at the park, church, and Disneyland. I'm getting used to spotting the nearest restroom wherever we are.

It's nice to have crossed this parenting hurdle and I'll be much more confident next time. Maybe then I'll be more pleasant to be around.

Great job, Shelby! Keep it up!

Oh, whatever on your "D". Having done this four different times with four very different little people, it is never an easy task. And the fact that you survived it without telling us how much chocolate/ice cream was consumed or how many times you broke down in tears means that you DID do a rocking job! Way to go!!
