Once upon a time we had sort of a Labor Day beach tradition. Last year I forgot - oops!
This year we brought back the fun and spent our first Labor Day at Zuma Beach. I think just about everyone else in this area did too. It was a gorgeous day.

Shelby and Tom jumped right into the water and tried boogie boarding.
Shelby wasn't a fan.
Tom caught some awesome waves - the surf is still huge right now from hurricane fallout.
I'll brag - I went out too! It felt great!
Tom and I both came out of the water with rocks in our swimsuits. Not sand, rocks! There's a really rocky layer back in the waves since the big surf has kicked up all the sand. That was definitely a new experience.

Cameron played it cool with the sand toys as usual. He doesn't think he's ready for the water yet. He did get wet later as the tide came in...and washed over our spot a bit. He wasn't happy.

Shelby transformed into a mermaid! This is Tom's awesome creation.
She loved it.

After shedding her mermaid tail, Shelby made up a wave measuring game. She drew a line where each wave touched. At one point she measured an especially big one, declared, "you're the winner!", and the game was over. I guess she found what she was looking for.

Tom took Shelby out for one last dip before we left. She's pretty gutsy in the water, but the big waves threw her off today. She ended up in dad's arms.

He didn't mind one bit.
Happy beach day!

Our little guy Declan isn't a fan of the water yet either... He sits as far away as possible, while the others enjoy! Looks like a fun tradition!!
