Tom's great; he knew we wouldn't be able to haul the piano to Utah for Christmas. It's heavy and fragile and not very discrete. So, he asked if I'd like it early. Of course! I came home from work and he had it all set up and "wrapped" for me.
There was a note to throw me off, but thank goodness it was, in fact, a piano (what I asked for) instead of a pony (NOT what I asked for). Pianos sound pretty and don't smell. Can't say the same for ponies.
I've wanted to learn to play the piano for quite a while. It's on my "bucket list". Why not get started now?
Earlier I had the opportunity to take piano lessons in the Hollywood Ward with the other women in the Relief Society presidency. A man in the ward was kind enough to teach us for free, and he's a piano genius. It was great fun. I never got very far, though, because it was hard to practice. I had to go to the church, and didn't always have the discipline!
Now that I have my own piano, I can practice whenever I want! I don't have my free lesson source any more, but hopefully I picked up enough that I can do some serious self-teaching.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm too old to pick up a new talent (or pick up an old one again). You inspire me!
What did he wrap it in? And he gets that weird Christmas tag writting thing from mom and dad, they used to put really odd and funny tags on all of our gifts growing up. It's always fun to stretch ourselves and try new things, good luck.

How fun.. what a great present! Learning to play is on my bucket list too but I have to wait to start my paracticing until this next summer when my piano will be delivered by my in-laws! Good luck with the lessons...
You are awesome! I know all the music theory behind it so I can play almost anything like a funeral march, but dirges just aren't that appropriate for most of the time and I'm not cool enough to get myself to practice.
Keep it up and maybe someday you'll have us all running marathons and playing the piano...oooo, what if we could do both at the same time? Now THAT would be cool.
What a fun gift. Good for you for learning the piano (I'm biased of course). I love the note on the wrapped up gift, too.
