"Mama Running Dirt"

Wondering what the subject line is all about? If you ask Shelby what I was doing on Saturday morning, that's what you'll hear. She's pretty much right - I went running in the dirt!

Elizabeth has run gazillions of miles of trail races and tears it up every time. Jane and I got to come along for the 18K Sycamore Canyon Trail Run in Malibu. We had a great race and it felt so good to be out in the mountains. How often can you run along a gorgeous rugged trail with a beautiful beach view? Stunning.

Elizabeth is known for her skills as a runner slash videographer. We made a video along the way. The banter got more and more silly as we got farther into the race, so we'll see how our debut film turns out!

Here are some photos of our fun day...

We went for the "Best Dressed" award...think we got it?

Hooray for tube socks!
We're REALLY excited - can you tell!
I think we all forgot how to do a good sturgeon face. But we're still cute.
Skipping in to the halfway aid station. They had GUMMY BEARS! I'll run any distance if there are gummy bears.

We had a crowd waiting for us at the aid station. The guys and kiddos came and met us. Shelby and I had a chance to catch up.

After the aid station, our entourage headed to the beach to kill time. Shelby says "go long!".

Taking it all in...

More sandy toes.

Shelby and Ryan stopped to smell the flowers...
Aren't they cuties?
I feel like this should be a postcard.

...and pick them, too.

He loves me...he loves me not...

The kiddos got to run the last few meters with their mamas.
The finish line! Go us!
It was such a beautiful run and I'm glad we went for it.

The best part of races is the friends there with me. I had some awesome running buddies and a great cheering section. Tom and Shelby were such a good entourage - thanks to them for waking up super early, chaperoning me to the starting line, cheering me on, and being all around amazing.

We'll see what the next race may be!

So I think that picture of us bounding into the aid station is just about the funniest thing ever. My pose reminds me of the "Strutting Leo DiCaprio" meme that went around awhile ago:

Example of Strutting Leo here

Me + Leo = Twinners!

Nicely done, you awesome Mommy! I'm super impressed and think that the tube socks totally make the race. Happy running in the sun!

18K? Who's ever heard of such a distance?? It sounds really impressive! I know what your next race can be....Boulder Marathon Labor Day 2011. I already signed up but I'm not comfortable running marathons without you!
