Eleven Months

Happy eleven months, Cameron!

What better way to kick off the new year than with a monthly milestone?

Especially since we didn't get to start the new year as planned.

The kids got sick during the week of Christmas, so we had to nix a New Year's Eve party last night and - alas - we had to skip out on the Rose Parade this morning. We didn't see the wisdom in waking the kids early, keeping them out in the 40 degree weather, and sharing the boogery mess with a crowd of thousands.

If there had been a shred of wisdom in going to the parade with sick kids, we would have found it - we debated long and hard before we decided to do the responsible parent thing. Sometimes the responsible thing is so...boring!

We did celebrate the beginning of 2013 with a family walk by the beach and then a mellow day at home, and it was just what we needed.

Our time at home gave Cameron plenty of opportunities to show off his new skill...

That's right, the boy WALKS! While apparently cheering himself on the whole time - check out the triumphant raised arms. You can also see the signs of the cold in the ruddy cheeks and, um, "glossy" nose.

Walking really clicked for him on Christmas day when we were at my grandparents' house. Suddenly there was a huge audience and lots of Christmas loot to chase after. Then he really perfected the skill at my parents' house before we headed home. Since then he's been all over the place.

I like this video because it looks like Cameron is chasing Shelby around (Shelby would be the streak that goes by every second or two - the cold hasn't robbed her of energy!). He'll have no problem keeping up soon.

I have yet to take them somewhere he can walk around; we'll see how the first outing goes with two kiddos on foot. Wish me luck!
