On Wednesday we went to the playground with our friend Nash. We had some play doh that was drying up anyway, so we brought it along. Shelby and Nash were so cute playing together.
On Thursday we went to the beach. Before we left, Tom used pomade and gave Cameron some rockin' beach hair.
I think Cameron knew he looked adorable, because he posed for dad's camera.
On Friday we went to a birthday pool party. Shelby was in love with the alligator floatie. She kept piling on with two or three friends, but every time I ran for the camera they'd tumble off with a huge splash. Both kids love the pool these days.
Over the weekend we had a visit from Grandpa Seguine! We love when he stays with us.
He brought us this "Thing 3" romper...why on earth would we need that?
That's right, our little "Thing 3" is due in February! Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Seguine!
On Saturday we went to the Ventura County Fair. It's definitely not as big and eclectic as the LA County Fair we grew used to. But if you've ever had the urge to go to a rodeo with a view of the Pacific Ocean, the VC Fair is the place to be! Very cool grounds.
We have a story about getting to the fair. Last year when we arrived we noticed that the Amtrak train has a stop right at the fair entrance. Tom and I said in passing that we should just take the train next time; it seemed much easier.
The kids remembered our passing comments for THE WHOLE YEAR! Every time we saw the train go by (which was a lot, we live by the tracks), they would ask, "is that the train we're riding to the fair?"
So, when fair time came along, we of course wanted to make good on our promise. Tom rode the big Amtrak train with the kids and I drove separately so we didn't have to deal with the round trip. It worked out really well, except the train beat me by a long time. I was worried about Tom being stuck there alone with the kids for longer than anticipated. When I found them, I realized he had everything under control. He's such a great dad!!!
This is what I walked up to - sound asleep! Loud rodeo and all!

When the kids woke up, we watched the rest of the rodeo and went out to ride rides.

She also had a blast on the Super Slide.

Cameron chose to ride the zoo train. He loved it.
Since he loved the first train so much, he chose a train ride again. He liked it when it was standing still...
...but quickly his smile turned to tears. It was a bit too fast and spinny for him by himself. Poor guy!

We helped him self-medicate with a giant soft-serve ice cream cone afterward. Shelby got one too. Tom and I of course indulged in Funnel Cake - it's the fair! And I got an enormous Hot Dog on a Stick lemonade, which was gone in about two minutes. I love that stuff.
Summer is winding down so quickly, and with Shelby starting Kindergarten next week I'm glad we've been able to pack in so much fun.
