He arrived Saturday morning and we decided to grab breakfast at The Griddle Cafe. I wish I had photos because our pancakes were literally the size of dinner plates - and they come in stacks of three. That's a big breakfast!
Taylor took a beauty nap in the afternoon and woke up to a cop driving by with a megaphone saying "all residents of Beachwood Drive must evacuate your homes". Huh? We instantly thought it was a fire, but thirty seconds later we heard another megaphone message saying "return to your homes; all residents must stay inside". HUH?
Turns out a crazy man had taken a hostage and barricaded himself inside an apartment just south of us. More drama on Beachwood Drive. They had to bring in the SWAT team! It was about then that we decided to leave, and Taylor thought it was pretty cool that he had to lift up police tape for us to drive under and escape our roadblocked neighborhood the back way.
We went to see The Incredible Hulk, and after spending a long afternoon of heat wave in our non-air conditioned apartment, we were looking forward to cooling off. We got smoothies and went to the theater - where we were told that the A/C was broken. Ugh! Still fun, though.
Taylor's only request for this trip out was to eat dinner at Carney's, a cute little burger stand on Sunset Strip. Yum.
We decided to drive down to Venice Beach, but it's extra sketchy at 10pm on Saturday night, so we bolted pretty fast. We did see a guy on stilts dressed head to toe in fur, though...there's something you can't see anywhere else.
A quick post-Venice stop at Coldstone ended up being a little more exciting when the two chivalrous boys stopped to help a girl whose car battery had died. Tom parked the wrong way in oncoming traffic to get the jumper cables to reach the girl's car. Hooray for random acts of kindness!
On Sunday Taylor got to have another Hollywood Ward experience, and then we had a yummy BBQ.

Our day of rest was quite restful, until around 12:30am when water started pouring from our kitchen ceiling. Apparently the aforementioned Saturday heat wave wrought havoc on the water pipes in the apartment above us. Aside from water drips all over my just-mopped floor, a bunch of bubbles in the paint, and a water-filled light fixture, we survived this next bit of drama just fine.
I played hooky from work on Monday (with permission, of course!) and hung out with Taylor all day. We spent almost four hours at Long Beach Aquarium - it was a blast! We felt like little kids.

I plotted a little bit on Monday morning and brought running gear with me, so after I dropped Taylor off at LAX I slipped on over to Manhattan Beach and caught a sunset run. Ah! Always beautiful.

I love it. Talk about an adventurous weekend in LA. I can't believe that down your street there was a SWAT team. They are pretty fierce. Love the post!
I LOVE the bbq, we had a little weber when we were first married. Here's a fun fact about them: every year they are the stars of an engineering school's bbq. Yep, they use liquid oxygen to light their bbq's. This, of course, results in the grills totally melting into a little heap.
And we had almost no a/c in NY, just a tiny wall unit. I remember those days, enjoy them while you can.
Awww! That sounds like such a fun weekend! Those pictures made me miss Taylor! He's such a sutdly little brother! Man, you're street is crazy though. Never a dull moment!
