Yee Haw!

Before this past weekend, Tom had never been to a rodeo. OK, so that's not really a big deal... unless you're a member of my family. My grandparents and extended family have run the West Jordan Western Stampede Rodeo for over 30 years. Wow! We took an impromptu trip to Utah for the fourth of July to introduce Tom to the Warnick family tradition. They put on an amazing show, and even Tom and me, the "city slickers", had an incredible time.

Being a part of the family has its advantages. We don't watch the show from boring old bleachers...we sit right on the gate around the arena! You've got to be close enough to get dirt kicked on you, or it's just not the full experience.

My sister, Andrea, and her husband, Jake

I fell in love with this little guy - he's a miniature horse with one of the cutest smiles I've ever seen. He flashed it at my sister and won her over in a heartbeat.

Look at those teeth! So cute!

Here's me pretending to be a cowgirl:

Here's Andrea, a real cowgirl (I borrowed her hat):

I made a friend, too - one of the cranky bulls! We knew this guy was tough because he was in a stall by himself. That's always a sign of a fighter. He posed for me, though! Or maybe he was just staring at my out-of-place cowgirl hat...borrowed from Andrea again...

One bit of the weekend I'm bummed about is my lack of pictures of Saturday afternoon. We met up with Julie, Ilana, and Forester for a day of climbing at The Quarry (the scene of me and Tom's first date...memories!). Julie just started rock climbing and already has major skills, and those kids are fearless! Ilana made it all the way to the top. They let us come over to their house afterward to spend the afternoon with the whole family.

The trip was well worth the 11 hour drive each way - hooray for holiday traffic!

How did I not know this about you? I love rodeos. In Texas, we dress up for cowboy day in order to win tickets to the Mesquite Rodeo. It's a big deal. Somehow we missed covering this topic while walking throughout France. Go figure. We about covered everything else though! :)

So much fun! Eric and I are toying around with going to the days of '47 rodeo in Ogden when we are up there. He's been before, but I haven't, we'll have to see.

I found your blog from Haley's. I hope that is alright. It is fun to see pictures of you and your husband. It is crazy how long ago it was that we skated. Do you keep in touch with Sara? Have you been skating recently? Check out our blog at mnerdin.blogspot.com

Heather that looks like so much fun! I think you make a great cowgirl!! One of these times when you come back to Utah we will have to go to lunch or something and catch up.

Being as I finally got my papers and can legally claim TEXAS as home, after living here for 55 years and raising 3 True Texans I can identify with Rodeos. The pictures are great & Heather you are a lovely Cow Girl, borrowed hat & all.

I can't believe that you were here. We just had our annual "skating reunion" and this year we invited everyone that we knew. We missed you cause we thought you were in Cali. Now here I find out that you were in town during it. :( Sad! I wish you could have joined us. If you were on Facebook you would have known about it and could have come for the party :) (all the cool people are doing it)Really, you still need to join.
