Sandy Sheets

Where did summer go? Being one of the last weekends before preschool starts, we headed to Zuma Beach and met some friends for a last hurrah. Lots of other people had the same idea, so in spite of the foggy day the beach was full of fun families.

Shelby got buried in the sand twice.

Little brother helped the first time - you can see his little hands scooping.

Her friends helped the next time. They called this the sand crab castle. I'm just glad she didn't bring any sand crabs home in her swimsuit.

While Shelby ran around and played a bunch, this cute little sand eater kept me company.

The day will come when he's ready for one of these...

Shelby made friends with a group of little boys and helped them collect a pile of seaweed. Gross, but it kept them entertained.

And if anyone knows what was going on at the north end of Zuma Beach today, tell me!

There were Sheriff helicopters and four-wheelers zipping by, along with a lifeguard boat. The boat stopped by a big group of people in the water and started spraying at them. Then orange smoke started blowing in from the water at one point. What was up? I know there was a drug bust in Malibu yesterday, but I don't know that this would have anything to do with it. It's a mystery.

Here's just one of several flybys. Shelby is mid-stride just above the cone.
Each of the little cuties fell asleep on the way back. They get so wiped out at the beach that I can transfer them from the car to their beds to finish resting. That always results in sandy sheets in each of their beds. I can never get annoyed with that because it's proof we've had a fun day at the beach. That always makes me happy.
