Meet Him Halfway

Elder Garner hit his one year mark today. His mission is halfway over! It's gone so fast for me. Here's what he said about it:
"Mission time is really weird, it goes by sooo fast, but eternally slow sometimes. Days feel like weeks, weeks feel like days."
He's serving in a place called Canyon, Texas. He spent 13 hours on a bus to get there from San Angelo - whew!

He lives at the edge of a golf course. He took the below photo from his front yard to show us just how close.

I think Heavenly Father knows Taylor pretty well - he'll feel right at home among golfers! He heard that some members take the missionaries golfing sometimes, so he's got his fingers crossed. Right now he's content cheering people on from his window.

His companion is a straight-laced guy named Elder Miles. He's a Spanish-speaking missionary so Taylor has been doing lots of language study with him. Taylor's got a knack for learning languages and said we shouldn't be surprised if he can speak Spanish when he gets home. That would be awesome.

Part of his new area is Happy, Texas. How cute is that? It's the kind of town that completely shuts down during the local high school football game. He and his companion learned that when they found a ghost town atmosphere walking through on a Friday night. Finally the cheers drifting from the high school stadium told them where everyone was.

Elder Garner is happy to be serving in this area. He said that his last area, San Angelo, was fun but the work was tough. The Canyon area has already handed him some awesome experiences and good people. He said, "This ward is ready for amazing things, we can feel it!"

He shared Philippians 4:13 with us in his last email: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Keep up your strength, Elder Garner! We love you!
