I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
We definitely did - in spite of my best efforts. Due to a very eventful beginning half of the day, I was dubbed The Scrooge of Thanksgiving. "Hah Bumbug" to all! (We had to change the phrase a little since it was Thanksgiving and not Christmas.)
Our friends Elizabeth and Jason invited us to their place in Pasadena for the big feast, and we were so excited to spend the afternoon with them.
Here's what happened before we got to the good part of Thanksgiving...
I started the day by clogging the sink. Apparently oatmeal and kitchen plumbing don't get along. Lesson learned the hard way!
Poor Tom had to play plumber, and we had to figure out how to make mashed potatoes, cranberry salad, a relish tray, and four pies with minimal sink usage. Our kitchen was a MESS, but we pulled it off! Thank goodness we weren't hosting this year.
Luckily, Tom fixed the sink before we left. He's quite the handyman.
Then I struck again.
While we were loading the car, oops, I dropped my cell phone...into the pumpkin pie. Nice.
Tom came through again - he'd made an extra pumpkin pie, so I swapped them out and now have a whole pie in the fridge with my own phone-marked slice.
After that, we made it to Elizabeth and Jason's place. Hooray! I seem to have lost my Scrooge-ness on the drive and allowed the festivities to carry on without incident.
Elizabeth had set the table with skill to rival Martha Stewart. We all had place cards, too - even Shelby! The foliage came straight from nearby Pasadena trails as Elizabeth had collected it in a baggie during a run. She's awesome!
Here's a funny group shot...Elizabeth came up with the caption: "Fun was had by all - except one." We were practicing our sturgeon faces earlier (sturgeonface.com - totally immature but funny), I said we needed a sturgeon face photo, and everyone betrayed me.We definitely did - in spite of my best efforts. I see how it is.
A look at our evening's entertainer. Shelby had us smiling and laughing the whole time. She is so dang much fun!
