This is a photo of our upstairs thermostat today.
The left side is the temperature control, slid all the way to the coldest side. Like it helped...the right side indicates the actual temperature. By 4pm today it passed the 85 degree mark and crept toward 90 degrees. Isn't it November 4th? Crazy!
In case you couldn't tell, we've had a heat wave the past couple days, which is just another strange weather phenomenon we've seen since summer.
This past summer was one of the coldest on record for Redondo Beach. A big layer of clouds camped out over the coast and rarely allowed us to glimpse the sun. Shelby and I wore sweaters to her birthday party in the middle of July and we left the park just before the rain started to fall. I was so whiny all summer, but I hated the cold!
Then, on September 27th, Los Angeles hit a record 113 degrees. Redondo Beach's temperature wasn't far behind. That day was such a scorcher!
I'm no stranger to triple digit temperatures after living in Las Vegas for a couple of years, but here's the difference between then and now:
Las Vegas house = TWO air conditioners
Redondo Beach apartment = ZERO air conditioners
I opened a can a fruit for Shelby and I to share and it was warm. Not your basic room temperature, but warm as if we'd zapped it in a microwave. Ick.
The next day wasn't much better, either! Shelby and I cooled off in the pool that day. It's the first time I can remember getting out of the water and not feeling cold at all.
A week to the day after that record-breaking heat, we had a big rainstorm. What a contrast! We had more rain a couple of weeks later, during the Disneyland day.
Now we're back to scorching heat! Tom and I think we've transitioned to Australian climate and are now finally getting our summer. Whatever's happening, it's keeping us on our toes and keeping our apartment like an oven!
I just wanted to share our funny weather experiences recently. I'm glad I got photographic proof today!
