Fortunately, the title of this post is the closest we got to a tsunami today.
Still, it was a little exhilarating to wake up to a tsunami advisory in our part of California. Unfortunately, it meant also waking up to the sad news of Japan's major earthquake and subsequent tsunami. Our prayers are with everyone affected by those crazy events.
My mom sent me a text this morning in jest saying we shouldn't go to the beach today as we'd likely get swept away. Shelby and I rebelled in jest and headed down for our usual morning run.
Tom and I laugh at the drama of the media sometimes. They tried to make this sound like a huge deal for us, but we had a feeling everything would be fine. The beach and ocean were perfectly normal; the waves weren't even high. There was some wind, but that's par for the course this week.
What wasn't normal was the amount of boats in the water - many more than the average weekday - and the amount of people lining the shore just watching. What were they waiting for? A tsunami to sweep them away? Silly. I suppose the boaters were adrenaline junkies waiting to ride the wave. Alas, they were denied the rush because nothing ever showed up. I doubt anyone was truly disappointed - the last thing anyone wants is an immense wall of water crashing into the coast. Ocean water belongs in the ocean, so I'm happy to keep it that way.
So, we've added another fun California experience to our list - Tsunami Advisory. That's as close as we'd like to get.
Because every post is more fun with a little Shelby, here's a photo of a tidal wave of yogurt that hit Shelby's face. She wears it well.
